Texting, Sandbagging, Falling Rain, Rising Waters, and the Glory of God

The text came that help was needed.

Sunday night, we spent the evening in the cold, driving rain--filling bags of sand and surrounding homes with them as we are experiencing the rain falling and the waters rising.

As waters have been getting higher and higher in Paducah, it's been so encouraging to see the folks of our community also rising to the occasion and pitching in to help each other.

Joe Kimmel, Dave Rush, Rusty Banks, Charles, Micah, and Jonah Farris, Jason Williams, Johnny Bryant, Russ Wilson, Kevin Estes, Evan and Beth Prather, Brad Knight, Robb Kephart, and Brandon Barnhill were just some of the folks who worked hard tonight trying to help some families avoid flood damage.

I think I now have a whole new understanding of "soaking wet!"  After hours of toiling in the pouring rain, we gathered around the homeowners on their front porch, told them how thankful we were that we could help them, how much we loved them, and that more than all of that--God sure did love them.

We prayed together, we began walking to our vehicles and the father of the home asked "what church are y'all from?"

I get in bed tonight having that "good kind of tired" feeling.  I also am praying for a family to be kept free from floodwaters and for the reality and glory of God to be more and more evident as a result of a few men who sought to do what they could do to help.

God, please use the events of this evening to bring much glory to yourself!

In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.  Matthew 5:16
